SUBTERRANEAN PARKING LOT TIPS
Know what floor you are parked on. Avoid walking alone if possible. Walk with a group to and from your vehicle. Ask a security guard to walk you to your vehicle. Know what time business associates and friends arrive at work and leave to go home. Avoid taking shortcuts. Carry something with you such as your keys in your hand, an umbrella, a pencil or pen, pepperspray, etc. Don't go through your personal propery as you are walking, such as your purse, wallet or briefcase. Report lights that are out or flickering. Report doors that should be locked or unlocked. Know what time the garage or parking lot closes. Know where your keys can be picked up if the lot is closed when you leave work. When you are approaching your vehiles, look around in the general vicinity. Look at, around and near pillars. Look carefully around you vehicle. Check under, around and inside your vehicle before entering if possible. Check your truck and lid. Have your keys in your hand. Lock your doors as soon as you get in. When you start your vehicle look through the rear view mirrors and be alert. Look for anything that seems out of place or curious. Turn on your headlights while driving in the garage. Place your purse in a concealed place. If you will be working late, notify your supervisor. If you are taking the stairwell, don't take shortcuts. Be familiar as to where the doors lead to. Listen as you open the stairwell door. It's not a good idea to wait for someone in a garage area by yourself. Have a plan. Periodically imagine about situations that could happen and what you would do about it. Use common sense.
