Still another myth is that rape is committed by strangers you don't know.   Statistics show that most rapes are committed by people that you know.  As many as 65--80% of the victims will know their attacker in some way, shape or form.

Although most reported rapes occur at night, a sufficient number of them occur throughout the day.    This leads us to the conclusion that no time slot is really safe.   It is estimated that over one-third of the rapists force their way into the victims' homes.  Over half of the rapes are committed inside residences.   Frequently, the rapist knows their victim.  Again, this dispels the myth that a rapist is a stranger that jumps out of the buses and rapes a woman.

Most rapes are not done in impulse.  The victim happens to be unfortunate enough to be radomly chosen by the rapist.   Much of the panning a rapist does is detailed and elaborate, often without any particular victim in mind.    Rapists will usually choose the "easiest perceived victim" they can find.  The key here is to
not be perceived to be a victim.

To avaoid being
perceived as being a victim, begin by taking a proactive look at your life.  Learn to be assertive in how you carry yourself.  When you walk somewhere, always look like you know where you are going.  Don't appear to be lost.   Many times our minds are on day-to -day activies, problems at work, family situations and other things that weigh on our mind, opposedot where we are going and what we are doing.  We become lost in thought and lost in action.  We become oblivious to our surroundings and te approaching situations and environments.  Take the time to prace not looking like a victim.

Another myth is that a woman is safe in her workplace.  It is estimated that over 13,000 women are raped on the job annually.

When ever anyone uses force within the scope of intercourse, a rape has been committed.  The use of force is not limited to just a physcal assault, it may include the use of a weapon, drugs, alcohol, intimidation, and even a person's diminished mental capacity.

If a man buys a woman dinner, a woman does not
owe the many anything.  As silly as this many sound on the surface, some people still hold on to this archaic belief.
